Wire - Hardfacing PLATINUM CX-1800 (Gasless)

Long-Life hardfacing 'MIG' wire for ground-engaging equipment. Very high resistance to abrasion with up to 3-4 times better wear life vs basic hardfacing wires*... thanks to special carbide additives not found in other wires.
Recommended for metal-to-earth applications where wear is mostly caused by abrasion, with low-to-medium impact; points, tynes, buckets, teeth, screws, augers, grousers, etc.
Gasless wire for easy application. Available in 1.2mm in 15kg or 4.5kg spools. Requires minimum 140 amps, suitable for use with 200A-250A MIG welders.

KEY FEATURES
> High-performance, offering exceptional wear life
> Very high abrasion resistance, offering a wear multiple of ~600% vs mild steel
> Light-to-medium impact resistance
> Gasless flux-cored wire
> Available in 15kg and 5kg spools

APPLICATION INFO:
> Typical hardness 59-61 HRc / 615-645 HB (max hardness achieved with 2 layers)
> Ideal for ground-engaging agricultural and earthmoving tools subject to high abrasion and low-to-moderate impact

SURFACE PREPARATION:
> VERY IMPORTANT: Surface to be hard faced must be clean and free of rust, scale, grease, moisture & other contamination.
> If existing/old hardfacing deposits are loose they should be removed. (Hammer test can confirm bond strength of existing deposits, a "ping" indicates good bond and a "clack" indicates a separation layer which must be ground off).
> Buffer Layer / Pre-Heat: CX-1800 will typically weld easily to most common surfaces WITHOUT the need for buffer layer or pre-heat, such as mild & high carbon steel, cast steel, etc
> If applying to hard-to-weld steels, or hard-to-weld existing deposits, use buffer layer of 309 or 312 wire or electrodes. Whilst not essential, pre-heat of 150-350c may be beneficial.
> If applying to high-manganese (non-magnetic) steel, buffer of specialist high-Mn/Cr wire should be used.

OPERATING DATA:
> Polarity: DC+ (torch/wire positive)
> Typical parameters: 140-200A @ 18-22V
> VERY IMPORTANT: Amperage & voltage should be as low as possible within the recommended range. Applying excessive heat/voltage will reduce the performance and wear life of the weld deposit, due to excessive alloying with base material
> Layers: Suitable for multi-layering (up to 3 layers)
> Positions: Flat / downhand only (not suitable for vertical or overhead)

FINISH:
> Surface normally relief-checks (forms fine micro cracks) after welding
> Weld deposit is NOT machineable
> Weld deposit IS grind-able

HOW DOES PLATINUM CX-1800 COMPARE TO HYUNDAI CRC ?
> Composition: Both wires carry a high % of chromium (Cr) for abrasion resistance - however CX-1800 includes additional proprietary carbide additives not found in other wires, for very high abrasion resistance and long-life
> Hardness: CrC = 54-57 HRc, CX-1800 = 59-61 HRc
> Wear-life multiple vs mild-steel*: CrC = 430%, CX-1800 = 600%
> Both wires are gasless, and are recommended for metal-to-earth applications where wear is mostly caused by abrasion, with low-to-medium impact
> Summary: CX-1800 can be used in all applications where CrC is/has been used, but will offer longer service life due to significantly higher abrasion resistance
