What Is a Downdraft Table, or Downdraft Bench?

A downdraft table is a specialised workstation, or mobile bench unit, designed for industrial applications, particularly effective in controlling welding fumes, dust, and other airborne contaminants. It features a built-in ventilation system that pulls fumes and particles downward through the work surface, away from the operator’s breathing zone. Many downdraft tables include a filter system that removes fumes and contaminants from the captured air. This ensures a cleaner, safer work environment by capturing hazardous substances directly at the source. Commonly used in welding, grinding, sanding, and plasma cutting, downdraft tables improve air quality, enhance worker safety, and help employers and workplaces to comply with WHS regulations.
